With the runaway success of Sony’s animated film KPop Demon Hunters, fans are now asking the ultimate question: Will Jinu return?
Actor Ahn Hyo-seop, who voices the beloved demon-turned-idol, weighed in during a recent interview with US Today, igniting hope among viewers.
In the film, Jinu is a 400-year-old demon who agrees to help the villain Gwi Ma harvest human souls in exchange for having his painful memories erased. However, things take a turn when he falls for Rumi, a member of the demon-hunting K-pop girl group HUNTR/X, only to discover she too harbors a dark secret—she’s part demon.
Despite initially betraying Rumi, Jinu ultimately sacrifices himself in a dramatic climax to save her and humanity, solidifying his redemption arc and leaving fans in tears.
But with such a poignant end, is there any chance of a comeback?
“I stan them too,” Ahn Hyo-seop admitted when asked about the possibility of a Jinu-Rumi reunion
“I think it’s about the pain and the agony that they had. I feel like it’s about the company, like you can’t solve your problems alone. You have to have somebody beside you, and they had the biggest connection.”
While Ahn didn’t initially imagine a return for Jinu given the character’s sacrificial fate, his feelings have shifted.
“I mean, Jinu gave his soul, so, like, I never really imagined how he would come back. As someone who loves Jinu as a fan too, of course I would love to see him come back. But it’s not up to me.”
Even Arden Cho, who voices Rumi, has publicly expressed hope for Jinu’s return, fueling speculation about a possible sequel. Ahn concluded by expressing his admiration for the franchise:
“I hope that this franchise continues to inspire people to embrace their shadows and their flaws and be able to still move forward. I’m a big fan too now, so I’ll be waiting and cheering like everyone else.”
Whether or not Jinu’s soul finds its way back, the emotional depth and unresolved questions have left fans eager for more. With KPop Demon Hunters proving to be more than just a musical romp, a sequel may just be on the horizon — and Jinu’s story might not be over yet.
