The trailer for Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming spy thriller Butterfly has been released, marking Kim Tae-hee’s official debut in a U.S. production.
Adapted from the graphic novel of the same name, Butterfly follows David Jung (played by Daniel Dae Kim), a former U.S. intelligence agent living quietly in Korea. His peaceful life unravels when a past decision draws the attention of mysterious operative Rebecca (Reina Hardesty) and her shadowy organization Cadis.
The star-studded cast also features Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, and Kim Tae-hee, whose appearances have already generated buzz among Korean audiences.
The trailer showcases a blend of high-stakes action and familiar Korean backdrops: a tense fight scene between Daniel Dae Kim and Kim Ji-hoon in a subway station, Park Hae-soo’s dramatic reappearance, and Kim Tae-hee exchanging emotional glances by the seaside.
Seoul’s skyline, Yeouido’s cityscape, neighborhood convenience stores, and apartment complexes add authentic Korean flavor to the series, with even Hangul signage making appearances — a visual treat for detail-oriented viewers.
Speaking to the New York Post, Daniel Dae Kim revealed his cultural vision for the project: “I wanted to create a program that connects Korean and American cultures. Since ‘Lost,’ I’ve continued using Korean, so speaking it in ‘Butterfly’ came naturally.”
Butterfly premieres on August 22 and will air every Friday and Saturday at 10:40 p.m. KST on tvN and TVING.
