On August 13, China Times reported that global fashion giant Nike filed a lawsuit against Hong Kong actor Edison Chen for alleged breach of contract. The complaint also names Edison Chen’s company, Juice Los Angeles LLC, as a co-defendant.
Initially, the compensation claim caused shock as it was reported to be $126 million. However, Nike later clarified that the actual claim is just over $126,000, a discrepancy caused by a clerical error in the court filing.

Nike stated that the amount pertains to unpaid goods. Edison Chen, who personally guaranteed the debt, along with Juice Los Angeles LLC, has yet to make payment since Nike’s initial request in November 2024. The lawsuit seeks repayment of the principal, accrued interest, and additional fees.
Edison Chen, born in 1980 in Canada, rose to fame in Hong Kong’s entertainment scene thanks to his striking looks, musical talent, and acting skills. He founded CLOT, a fashion brand that collaborated extensively with Nike on popular releases like “Kiss of Death” CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 and “Silk” CLOT x Air Force 1 Low. The partnership lasted nearly two decades until Edison Chen announced a switch to Adidas in October 2023, ending the long-standing collaboration.

The actor’s past is infamous for the 2008 photo scandal, in which over 1,300 private photos of Edison Chen and several female celebrities, including Gillian Chung and Cecilia Cheung, were leaked online. The scandal rocked Asia, destroyed reputations, and forced Edison Chen to leave Hong Kong for the United States.
In recent years, Edison Chen has reinvented himself as a businessman. He focused on expanding CLOT, which now operates stores across Asia and collaborates with major brands. On the personal front, he married supermodel Qin Shupei in 2017 and has a daughter, Alaia. Edison Chen frequently shares glimpses of his family life, presenting a reformed image as a devoted husband and father.

Despite leaving showbiz, Edison Chen’s past controversies remain a point of public attention, though many now acknowledge his efforts to rebuild a stable, responsible life. The Nike lawsuit adds another chapter to his high-profile journey from a scandal-ridden “bad boy” to a successful entrepreneur and family man.
