On August 10, a new Japanese girl group called everglow debuted. Although the English spelling differs slightly from Korean girl group EVERGLOW, the identical pronunciation immediately drew comparisons. Fans further noted that the Japanese group’s ring-like logo closely resembled EVERGLOW’s, fueling public criticism.
Following the backlash, the Japanese group’s agency head, Shota Honma and producer, Soichiro Yoshimura issued official apologies on August 11. “I sincerely apologize for causing concern and inconvenience regarding the new group,” Honma said, promising stricter legal checks and third-party verification for all names and logos in the future.

Yoshimura explained that he had used the word “Everglow” for about a decade in his solo work and chose it for the new group without realizing the potential conflict. “The logo’s infinity-inspired design ended up resembling another group’s logo. It was not intentional, but the lack of prior research and consideration for the existing group and fans led to this situation,” he admitted. He confirmed that the group will “immediately stop using the current name and logo” and proceed with changes.
EVERGLOW — made up of E:U, Sihyeon, Mia, Onda, Aisha, and Yiren — debuted in 2019 with hits like Bon Bon Chocolat, Adios, DUN DUN, and La Di Da. However, the group’s exclusive contract with Yuehua Entertainment ended in June 2025, failing to overcome the so-called “seven-year curse.”
Although members Sihyeon and Onda have stated, “The contract ended, but it’s not disbandment,” the group has been effectively inactive since their June 2024 release Zombie, a move many see as the beginning of their disbandment process.
