In the August 11 broadcast of MBN’s counseling program Oh Eun-young’s Stay, a woman under the nickname Cheon-ryun shared her devastating story of being sexually abused by her stepfather for three years, from age 9 to 12.
She recalled, “My mother remarried when I was six, and I began living with my stepdad at age nine. He often showed me inappropriate videos, saying ‘This is how dads and daughters interact,’ and imposed disturbing rules, like not wearing underwear under skirts and sleeping only beside him instead of my mother.”
It wasn’t until a school sex education class in 6th grade that she realized the abuse was wrong. “I thought all dads were like that until my friends reacted with shock,” she said tearfully.

When she confided in her mother during middle school, hoping for support, the response was heartbreaking. “She said my stepdad would never do that and accused me of making it up for attention,” the victim recounted.
The emotional strain led her to consider self-harm, hoping visible injuries would make her family believe her. However, her grandmother and mother insisted she “let it go” as a “past incident”.
Despite her stepfather’s eventual divorce from her mother, the unchanged home environment kept triggering her trauma. “I still remember his name, birthday, and every detail. Part of me wants to confront him, but I’m also afraid of finding out he’s still alive,” she admitted.
The story has since drawn strong public sympathy and outrage, especially over the mother’s dismissal of the abuse.
