Netflix’s animated hit K-Pop Demon Hunters has ignited a heated discussion among fans over whether it should be adapted into a live-action film.
According to TheWrap (July 31), Netflix previously explored expansion ideas including two anime sequels, a live-action remake, a TV series, and a stage musical. However, Hollywood Reporter reported on August 6 that the streaming giant currently has no plans for a live-action adaptation, instead focusing on expanding the anime’s universe through other formats.
Online communities are divided. Supporters of a live-action say it could bring the story to a wider audience, while skeptics argue that the anime’s vibrant visuals and musical style would be difficult to reproduce convincingly. Some fear that losing the original’s unique aesthetic could strip away its charm.
One heated point of debate is casting. In Korean forums, comments like “If Jennie, Cha Eun Woo, or V aren’t in it, there’s no point” have gone viral, reflecting how central star power is to fans’ expectations.
Others focus on the challenge of integrating authentic K-pop elements into live-action without feeling forced. As one fan wrote: “It’s not just about replacing animation with real actors — the music and choreography have to match the K-pop energy.”
