On the August 4 episode of YouTube show Jjannhyung with Shin Dong-yup, titled “Yoona’s center obsession goes on forever. A cure? Don’t even dream about it,” Yoona appeared alongside actor Ahn Bo-hyun to promote their new film Pretty Crazy. The episode quickly turned playful as host Jung Ho-chul poked fun at Yoona’s supposed “center syndrome.”
“Are you okay with where you’re sitting?” Jung asked with a grin, before joking that she was currently in the center seat and free to speak up if it got “unbearable.” Shin Dong-yup added, “If it gets too much, just switch seats.“

Yoona, clearly amused, crossed her arms in an “X” and responded: “I don’t have that kind of illness.” She explained, “When I saw that clip, I just thought, ‘Oh, the unnies said that just to make the broadcast fun.’ I’ll just pretend this is the center today’“, drawing laughter from the hosts and audience.
The joke stems from a May episode of Boiling Over, where fellow Girls’ Generation member Tiffany teased, “Yoona has a syndrome where she dies if she’s not in the center,” before quickly clarifying, “It’s just a joke! But really, Yoona should always be in the center. She deserves that spot.“
Yoona shared that the joke has followed her to other shows: “They always say, ‘Aren’t you uncomfortable? Tiffany said you’d die if you’re not in the center.’” She reassured viewers, “It’s not true at all. I’ve even talked about it with the members.“

Tiffany later admitted the sensational soundbite was her own doing: “The problem is me. I created this drama with that headline. Yoona does not have center syndrome.” She even pointed the finger at Sooyoung, saying, “If anyone in the group really has center syndrome, it’s Sooyoung. She admits it herself!“
In the end, Yoona’s response proved once again why she’s beloved — honest, quick-witted, and always ready to laugh at herself.
