BLACKPINK’s Jisoo has once again come under scrutiny for her acting performance, this time in the highly anticipated film Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy. Despite the brief screen time of approximately five minutes, her portrayal of the high school student Lee Ji-hye—an intense character who wields firearms and follows Yoo Joong-hyuk (played by Lee Min-ho) as her mentor—has drawn criticism for lacking emotional depth and delivering awkward lines.

Viewers and critics alike noted that Jisoo’s performance failed to improve from earlier roles in Snowdrop (JTBC) and Newtopia (Coupang Play), where similar complaints about her pronunciation, flat delivery, and forced intonation were raised. Fans of the original Omniscient Reader Viewpoint novel also expressed disappointment over creative liberties taken with her character originally a fierce sword-wielding figure, now altered into a gun user in the film further diminishing her impact.

This ongoing debate over idol-turned-actors has reignited, with some accusing the production of leveraging BLACKPINK’s global popularity rather than prioritizing acting ability. Online discussions included comments such as “She sounds like she has a lisp,” “Her intonation is unnatural,” and “She recites lines instead of acting them.”

In contrast, actor Jung Yunho (TVXQ’s Yunho) has been praised for his dramatic improvement in the film Low Life. Yunho, who also faced years of acting criticism since his 2009 debut in Heading to the Ground, delivered a standout performance as gangster Jang Beol-gu. Critics applauded his natural use of the Jeolla dialect and chemistry with veteran actors like Ryu Seung-ryong and Im Soo-jung. His transformation has led many to say he has finally shed the “bad actor” label after 16 years.

Ryu Seung-ryong remarked, “His acting was impressive his dialect stuck with me like pansori,” while Im Soo-jung added, “I was genuinely surprised by how good he was.”

A viral post from an online community commented, “It took Jung Yunho 16 years—who knows how long it will take Jisoo?” and suggested that overcoming an awkward acting phase is a challenge many idol-actors must face. Others remain hopeful, saying if Jisoo finds a role that truly suits her, she may yet overcome the controversy.
