Marcus Rashford has officially begun a new chapter in his career after completing a season-long loan move to FC Barcelona from Manchester United, with an option to buy for £26 million (€30 million) at the end of the 2025/26 season.
In a recent Spanish radio interview, the England international addressed his reduced role under United’s new manager Rúben Amorim, but declined to criticize the club. “United are currently in a transitional phase… I have nothing negative to say about the club,” Rashford remarked, adding, “Football—and life—don’t always go the way you hope. This is the next step, a new chapter in my career.”
Rashford expressed deep excitement about joining Barcelona, calling the Catalan side “a club where dreams come true.” He emphasized the family atmosphere and high expectations as key factors in his decision. “It feels like home… the perfect environment for great players to thrive,” he said.
However, what was meant to be an emotional send-off was partially overshadowed by a surprising reaction from Rashford’s now-former teammate Alejandro Garnacho. Under Barcelona’s official post welcoming Rashford, the Argentine youngster left a highly enthusiastic comment: “Lets gooooo” with two salute emojis.
The reaction stirred controversy among Manchester United supporters. Many criticized Garnacho for publicly celebrating the move, interpreting it as insensitive given the context. His comment came on the same day Rashford posted a heartfelt farewell message, which was quickly eclipsed by the buzz surrounding Garnacho’s post.

Fans are speculating whether the comment hints at deeper tensions within the Manchester United locker room, especially since Garnacho, along with Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia, were also excluded from Amorim’s current plans.

As Barcelona eyes another successful season, Rashford is focused on contributing both personally and collectively. “Hopefully I can score a lot of goals and become the highest-scoring English player in Barça’s history—but above all, the priority is team success,” he concluded. Due to La Liga’s financial regulations, Rashford has not yet been registered for competitive matches, though Barcelona will cover his full salary during the loan period.
