S Line is a fantasy thriller that reveals hidden truths and forbidden desires when a mysterious red line—known as the “S Line”—begins to appear between people who have had sexual relationships. With its bold premise and suspenseful plot, the drama is gaining attention through word of mouth.
Since its premiere on July 11, S Line has consistently driven the highest number of new Wavve subscriptions for 12 consecutive days. During its second week, with episodes 3 and 4 released, it ranked No. 1 in both viewer count and total watch time within Wavve’s drama category. On July 19, the day after those episodes aired, the show broke Wavve’s 2025 daily record for new paid subscribers, dominating the small screen.
A Korean Drama Recognized at Cannes
S Line is based on a webtoon of the same name by popular creator Kkomabi, who also wrote the original story behind the Netflix series The Killer’s Shopping List. The drama retains Kkomabi’s signature imaginative world-building, although the ability to see the “S Line” is limited to only certain characters in the adaptation.

Upon release, the drama sparked major buzz with its bold bed scenes and nudity. Rated 19+, the provocative direction goes far beyond what’s allowed on traditional broadcast networks, utilizing the flexibility of OTT platforms to bring its unique world to life in a visually striking way.

The show’s quality has also received international recognition. S Line was officially invited to the long-form competition at the 8th Cannes International Series Festival, where it made history as the first Korean drama to win the award for Best Music.
Director Ahn Joo-young shared during a press conference, “It was difficult to visually depict a world where everything is covered by the S Line. We maintained the universe but reimagined it through the lens of glasses as a storytelling device. I wanted to explore how humans change when they gain the ability to see the S Line.”
Powerful Performances Lead the Emotional Narrative
A talented cast known for their versatile acting brings intense synergy to S Line. At the center are detective Han Ji-wook (played by Lee Soo-hyuk), mysterious high school teacher Kyu-jin (Lee Da-hee), Shin Hyun-heup (Oh My Girl’s Arin), who was born able to see the S Line, and classmate Kang Seon-ah (Lee Eun-saem), who begins seeing the lines through special glasses.

Lee Soo-hyuk brings grounded realism to the fantasy-thriller as a relentless detective and delivers a cool yet intense performance that anchors the series. Lee Da-hee portrays the strange and unpredictable teacher Kyu-jin with restrained acting that builds suspense. Her ability to shift from innocent to chilling enhances the mystery of her character and heightens viewer immersion.

Lee Eun-saem plays Seon-ah, a student bent on revenge. Her nuanced portrayal captures a wide range of emotions—from being bullied to experiencing rage and ultimately enacting vengeance—deepening the audience’s engagement. Her performance showcases the evolution of a wounded character, marking a stark transformation from her ambitious role in Bitch X Rich 2.
Arin, of Oh My Girl, plays a key role in driving the plot forward as she provides crucial clues to detective Ji-wook following Seon-ah’s fall. With this performance, Arin steps beyond her “idol actress” image, showing sincere and emotionally resonant acting. By letting go of her usual bright and bubbly image, she fully immerses herself in a calm and emotionally intricate role, earning praise for her acting potential.
The Mystery of the Red Line Goes Global
Internationally, S Line has also generated heated interest. Viewers abroad are fascinated by the show’s unique premise—where a red line appears between people who have had sex. This concept has inspired a wave of parody short-form content online.
From camera filters that project a red line over people’s heads to videos where users draw the S Line into images, a meme-like trend is spreading rapidly. Over 230,000 videos have been created, amassing over 2.7 billion total views. The series, which launched simultaneously in countries like Taiwan and Malaysia, is receiving an enthusiastic reception.
S Line will conclude with the release of its final two episodes on July 25, completing the six-part series.
