Cristiano Ronaldo’s presence in Austria has caused unexpected disruption for German football club Hannover 96. Al Nassr, Ronaldo’s Saudi Arabian club, recently began their pre-season training camp in the quiet Austrian town of Saalfelden, from July 20 to August 4, 2025. But due to strict security demands tied to the football superstar, Hannover 96 was forced to vacate their usual hotel accommodations.
Saalfelden is a long-favored training destination for many European football clubs thanks to its peaceful environment and excellent sports facilities. Hannover 96 has routinely chosen the town for their summer preparations. However, this year they were asked to leave their long-time hotel after it was exclusively reserved for Ronaldo and Al Nassr.
The reason? Ronaldo reportedly arrived in Austria with 16 personal bodyguards and required full privacy and tight security at the team’s hotel. These demands made it impossible for the venue to host another team, forcing Hannover 96 to find alternative accommodations at a smaller nearby sports complex.
Despite the abrupt change, Hannover 96 head coach Christian Titz remained upbeat. “It’s no problem at all,” he said in a statement. “The new facility is great, and the pitch is in excellent condition.”
Al Nassr’s Austria training camp includes several friendly matches before the team moves on to Portugal and then returns to Saudi Arabia. They will later travel to Hong Kong, where they are set to face Al Ittihad in the semifinals of the 2025 Saudi Super Cup.
This incident highlights the global star power and influence of Cristiano Ronaldo, whose presence alone can alter the plans of major football clubs.
