Rashford has landed in Barcelona

Marcus Rashford has officially arrived in Barcelona, moving one step closer to completing a loan transfer to the Catalan giants. According to Mundo Deportivo, Rashford’s flight landed at Josep Tarradellas El Prat Airport at 9:30 PM (local time) on July 20—roughly 90 minutes later than scheduled. He was accompanied by his agent Dwayne Maynard, intermediary Arturo Canales from AC Talent, and his brother. During the flight, Rashford reportedly relaxed by playing cards.

Rashford is scheduled to undergo his medical examination on July 21. If all goes smoothly, he will be unveiled as a new Barcelona player the following day, July 22. As revealed by The Athletic, Manchester United granted Rashford permission to travel to Spain and finalize his loan move, which includes a €30 million buy option at the end of the season.

Despite ongoing financial struggles, Barcelona has agreed to cover Rashford’s full salary during his loan stint. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Rashford himself accepted a 15% pay cut to help expedite the move.

“Mbappe Once Fell Before Rashford”

Mundo Deportivo highlighted the transfer with the headline: “Mbappe Once Fell to Rashford”, recalling some of Rashford’s most iconic European nights. On March 7, 2019, Manchester United staged a historic comeback against PSG in the Champions League round of 16. After losing 2–0 at Old Trafford, United stunned PSG with a 3–1 win in Paris. Rashford was the hero, converting a last-minute penalty in stoppage time after VAR confirmed a handball by Kimpembe. His confident strike past Gianluigi Buffon and the now-famous head-pat to Kylian Mbappe became an enduring image of that incredible night.

A year later, Rashford haunted Mbappe again. On October 21, 2020, United defeated PSG 2–1 in the Champions League group stage at Parc des Princes. Rashford scored the decisive goal in the 87th minute after a Paul Pogba assist, once again leaving Paris with a win and Mbappe on the losing side.

Hansi Flick Approves the Deal

According to The Athletic, Barcelona has submitted a formal proposal to acquire Rashford on loan for the upcoming season, with a purchase option included. While the deal is not finalized, negotiations have entered their final stages and are progressing swiftly.

Barcelona’s head coach Hansi Flick has personally spoken to Rashford and is fully supportive of the transfer. For Barcelona, who are still navigating financial difficulties, the loan agreement offers an ideal solution: acquiring a top-tier attacking talent without paying a large transfer fee upfront.

Flick is eager to strengthen the team’s attacking depth, particularly on the left wing, an area where Barca found themselves lacking options toward the end of last season. Rashford, known for his versatility and ability to operate both on the flank and centrally, fits this profile perfectly.

Rashford Seeks a New Challenge

For Rashford, the move aligns with his public desire for a “new challenge”, expressed back in December last year. Despite being one of United’s highest-paid players—reportedly earning over £325,000 per week—he no longer appears to be a part of manager Ruben Amorim’s tactical plans.

Rashford, now 27, has spent his entire senior career at Manchester United, but inconsistency and changing club strategies have raised questions about his long-term role. A move to La Liga could offer the English international a much-needed career reboot in a new environment.

If completed, the transfer would mark one of the most high-profile moves of the summer, as both clubs reshape their squads and futures. Rashford’s potential impact at Camp Nou could be significant—both on and off the pitch.
