Rising star Lee Jong-won and actress-idol Kim Do-yeon (Weki Meki) have been confirmed as the lead actors in the upcoming historical melodrama Praying for the Moonflower.

On July 18, a production insider revealed that the duo would star in this intense and poetic series, which tells the tale of a fateful and forbidden love that unfolds in a time of war and division.

In Praying for the Moonflower, Cho Seol, a swordsmith living in a prisoner village, meets Baek Je-hee, a general from an enemy state who has defected. Despite their bitter circumstances and opposing backgrounds, an undeniable attraction pulls them toward one another. However, their intertwined destinies set them on a path toward a tragic and irreversible end.

Lee Jong-won portrays Baek Je-hee, the top warrior of Gaero Nation. Known for his striking looks inherited from his mother, he’s cold-hearted, ruthless, and prefers solitude, allowing no one near.

Kim Do-yeon plays Cho Seol, a master swordsmith with a calm and elegant demeanor. Though surrounded by hardship, she remains pure and dignified like a freshly bloomed peony. Her quiet strength and piercing gaze earn respect from all, even the most unruly.

This project marks Kim Do-yeon’s first official lead role after portraying younger versions of lead characters in dramas like One the Woman and Jirisan. Following Weki Meki’s disbandment, she studied acting in the UK, showing a strong commitment to her new career path.

The script for Praying for the Moonflower is written by Jang Yoo-ha, the screenwriter behind Netflix’s Doona!, with filming set to begin soon. The series promises a lush, emotionally layered experience of love, sorrow, and human connection wrapped in a stunning historical setting.
