Arsenal has officially reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Noni Madueke in a deal worth over £50 million, including add-ons. The English winger is expected to complete his move to the Emirates next week, according to journalist David Ornstein.

Madueke had already agreed on personal terms with Arsenal on a 5-year contract, but negotiations between the two clubs over the transfer fee had delayed the announcement. Chelsea initially demanded a fixed £50 million, while Arsenal’s offer included bonuses. Ultimately, the two sides settled on a deal slightly above £50 million, which satisfies Chelsea’s valuation.

This marks a profitable sale for Chelsea, who bought Madueke from PSV Eindhoven for just £28.5 million in 2022. Since joining the Blues, the 22-year-old has recorded 20 goals in 92 appearances.

Madueke is currently with Chelsea at the FIFA Club World Cup, where he is expected to feature in the final against Paris Saint-Germain on July 14. That match is likely to be his final appearance for the London side.

On social media, an Arsenal supporter named Gooner Talk expressed frustration, saying: “£52 million for Madueke? That’s the kind of money you spend on a top striker, not a backup winger.” Many other Arsenal fans echoed this sentiment, arguing that the Emirates club could invest that sum more wisely on a central striker or a high-quality left winger.

The majority of Arsenal supporters’ reactions to the potential signing of Madueke have been largely negative. Meanwhile, most Chelsea fans have mocked their rivals for the deal. An account named The Blues London commented: “Madueke is a good player, but £52 million is way too expensive. We just sold a bench player for a premium price.”

Football London raised concerns that Arsenal may be “backing themselves into a corner” by spending heavily on a position that isn’t a top priority—especially considering their projected summer 2025 transfer budget is around £150 million.

While Arsenal was also monitoring Rodrygo from Real Madrid, the Brazilian’s £90 million price tag and high wage demands reportedly over £250,000 per week made Madueke a more appealing option. By contrast, Madueke is expected to earn under £100,000 per week at Arsenal, with much of his salary tied to performance-based bonuses.

Manager Mikel Arteta plans to train Madueke to play on the left wing, providing competition for Gabriel Martinelli. While Madueke naturally plays on the right where Bukayo Saka is the starter his versatility could allow Arsenal to rotate effectively throughout the season.
