While billionaire Jeff Bezos celebrated a lavish, three-day wedding with Lauren Sánchez in Venice, Italy, much of the global conversation also turned to his first wife, MacKenzie Scott, and their four children.
The June 27 wedding, held at a Venetian palazzo, was a spectacle of wealth and star power. Guests included Oprah Winfrey, Tom Brady, Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Ivanka Trump, and designer Domenico Dolce, turning the event into one of the year’s most high-profile social gatherings.
But as images of the festivities went viral, many couldn’t help but ask: Where is MacKenzie Scott?
A 25-Year Marriage and Billion-Dollar Split
Bezos and Scott’s relationship began in 1992 at hedge fund D.E. Shaw in New York City. They married a year later and were together for over two decades, during which Bezos launched and grew Amazon into a global tech giant.
The couple announced their divorce in 2019 with an amicable joint statement, writing: “If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again.” As part of the settlement, MacKenzie Scott received 25% of the couple’s Amazon shares, worth about $36 billion, instantly making her one of the world’s richest women.
Bezos retained 75% of the shares and voting rights, while the two agreed to continue co-parenting and collaborating where necessary.
MacKenzie Scott’s Quiet but Powerful Philanthropy
Since the divorce, Scott has made headlines not for glitz or glamor, but for her extraordinary philanthropic work. Through her organization Yield Giving, she has donated over $19 billion to more than 2,000 nonprofits, often without restrictions or publicity.
Scott is also a signatory of The Giving Pledge, vowing to donate the majority of her wealth during her lifetime. In 2021, she remarried Dan Jewett, a Seattle science teacher, but they quietly divorced by early 2023.
Despite personal changes, Scott has remained committed to using her wealth for systemic, transformative change—often avoiding media attention while maximizing impact.
What About the Bezos Children?
Bezos and Scott have four children, including their eldest son Preston Bezos, reportedly born in 2000 and a student at MIT. The couple also has two other sons and an adopted daughter from China, though their names and personal details remain private.
Notably, the Bezos children did not appear in any wedding-related photos or media coverage. In contrast, Sánchez’s two sons from a previous relationship were seen walking her down the aisle.
