On April 30, MBC weathercaster Oh Yoanna’s older brother, identified only as Mr. A, posted a heartfelt message on her official social media account. He began by thanking the public for their condolences and support, and revealed that the family had set a small birthday table in memory of Oh Yoanna, who would have celebrated her birthday that day.
“Every year, we celebrated her birthday together. It’s still hard to believe that she’s no longer here to pick up the phone,” he wrote.
Mr. A also disclosed the heartbreaking detail that his sister had left behind what seemed to be a “collection of evidence,” stored on her phone material that he says shows her decision was “not made impulsively” but was the result of prolonged and severe harassment at work. “This wasn’t ordinary mistreatment—it was the kind of abuse that could drive a person to death,” he emphasized.

He expressed deep frustration over the fact that the individuals implicated in the case are still appearing on broadcasts as if nothing happened. “My sister ended her life in unbearable pain, but those who caused it continue to deliver the weather like any other day. That feels like a second form of harm,” he lamented.
Calling for genuine apologies and reflection from both the alleged perpetrators and those who stood by silently, Mr. A concluded, “We want our sister to rest in peace. Please continue to support us so her story is not forgotten.”
Oh Yoanna died in September last year, leaving behind a 17-page handwritten letter. Four fellow MBC weathercasters were identified by the family as perpetrators. The family has since filed a civil lawsuit against one of them.

While MBC launched a fact-finding committee in January, the network has yet to release an official statement. The four individuals named by the family continue to appear on-air, providing weather updates without any public comment.
Full Statement from Oh Yoanna’s Brother
Hello, I am Oh Yoanna’s older brother.
First, I sincerely thank everyone who has expressed condolences and offered prayers for my sister’s passing.
Today, we quietly set a birthday table with some of the food Yoanna used to love. Every year, we celebrated her birthday—but now, even if I try to call her, she is no longer there to answer. It still feels unbelievable.
While looking through Yoanna’s phone, we found a collection of evidence that seemed to prepare for her passing. This made it clear to us that her final decision was not made on a whim or from a fleeting emotion. It is still devastating to realize this.
What we want to emphasize is this: the abuse my sister suffered was not just the kind of unfair treatment that anyone might face once in life. It was severe and relentless enough to push a person to death.
Despite the torment that led her to give up on life, some individuals continue their daily routines as if nothing happened—delivering weather forecasts with calm expressions.
Our sister is no longer in this world, and watching those people go about their days as usual feels like a second wave of harm to us.
We, the bereaved family, hope that both the perpetrators and those who turned a blind eye will acknowledge their wrongdoings and sincerely apologize and reflect.
We speak up because we want our sister to rest peacefully, even in the sky, and because we are desperate to clear the injustice she faced.
Please continue to keep an eye on this case.
Thank you.
