On April 2, the video “Gukjune’s House: Ahn Jae-hyun & Kwak Bum” was released on the ‘Gukjune’ YouTube channel. In the video, Ahn Jae-hyun shared a heartfelt story about his life-changing car accident and the difficulties he faced during his career.
Ahn Jae-hyun revealed, “I actually wanted to be a rich dad. I didn’t care about my job as long as I could make a lot of money. But I had a really big car accident when I was 20.” He explained, “I was in the hospital for 6 months. I was in the taxi and someone just crashed it. I had a rib fracture and pneumothorax.”
Ahn Jae-hyun continued, “While i was in the hospital, I thought about what I should become and I thought I wasn’t handsome enough to be a celebrity. Seulong was my high school friend and he was super popular so I thought I could not be a singer/actor, but I’m tall so I thought I could be a model.” He added, “So after recovery, I went to the modeling academy. They choose 10 guys out of 20 and I didn’t pass the first round. I asked him why he didn’t choose me after I became a model and he said I didn’t look trendy.”
After graduating from the model academy, Ahn Jae-hyun started his career as a model. He recalled, “I thought thought I’d make a lot of money if I just became a model. After completing that academy course, I had a shooting for a magazine and I got 50,000-80,000 won per magazine shooting. But one day I became a model for beanpole accessories, the main model was Lee Soo-hyuk and the ad was displayed in Apgujeong. I didn’t really reveal my face so I got only 800,000 won. They gave me money 3-6 months after the shooting. It was very sad.” Ahn Jae-hyun also opened up about his financial struggles during this time.
Ahn Jae-hyun debuted as a model at the 2009 Seoul Fashion Week and later expanded his career into acting with his role in the 2013 SBS drama “My Love from the Star.”
