On the afternoon of January 11, the 2024 KBS Drama Awards aired. KBS held the ceremony on December 31, but due to the national period of mourning following the Muan Airport disaster, the event was not broadcast live. Instead, the pre-recorded footage was aired. The ceremony was hosted by Jang Sung-kyu, Seohyun, and Moon Sang-min.
Though the KBS Drama Awards took place just two days after the tragic airplane disaster, the event featured a celebratory performance rather than a somber atmosphere, which caught attention. Singer Kim Da-hyun, wearing a bright white outfit, performed the OST “Happy Day” from the KBS weekend drama “Beauty and Mr. Romantic.”
Although the KBS Drama Awards was broadcast as a pre-recorded show, it was filmed on December 31, just two days after the airplane disaster, which led to some criticism about the timing. Additionally, considering the song’s title, “A Happy Day,” many felt that the choice of song was somewhat inappropriate given the circumstances.
The Yuk Joong-wan Band also performed “Everything In The World” from the drama “Iron Family,” delivering a bright and lively performance. While it might have been difficult to cancel the celebratory stage, there was some lingering disappointment about the selection of such an upbeat song for the event.
