Other information
In the behind-the-scenes production video, Lee Jin-wook noted, “There are many films about exorcisms and rituals, but this is the first time I’ve seen one centered on nuns conducting a ritual.” The film amps up anticipation with its unique setup of two nuns, unauthorized to perform exorcisms, stepping into a forbidden ritual in the absence of a priest. Song Hye-kyo remarked, “There’s a lot of unexpected behavior and unrestrained speech. I think these elements will feel refreshing in a cinematic way.”
The production team’s efforts to infuse realism into the film elevate expectations for its distinctive direction. Music Director Kim Tae-sung shared, “We worked hard to amplify the eerie moments of our everyday lives.” Art Director Jo Hwa-sung added, “I aimed to create spaces that feel unsettling, as though familiar surroundings were breaking apart.” The film’s detailed representation of disruptions in ordinary life, coupled with its music and art direction, is expected to immerse viewers in a world that balances the familiar and the unsettling.

“Dark Nuns” also released still cuts of actress Song Hye-kyo, who takes on the role of Sister Junia, a nun willing to do whatever it takes to save a boy.
Following her powerful acting transformation in Netflix’s original series “The Glory“, which earned her the Grand Prize at the Blue Dragon Series Awards, Song Hye-kyo returns as Sister Junia, a bold and relentless character determined to save a boy named Hee-joon (played by Moon Woo-jin), who is possessed by an evil spirit. Sister Junia is a fearless and driven figure who pushes forward with her plan solely to save the boy.
Song Hye-kyo portrays Junia with delicate nuance, blending an icy, composed exterior with a heartfelt and desperate sincerity, creating a character never seen before. Not only does she complete this fresh role, but she also delivers an irreplaceable presence with her commanding charisma. Song Hye-kyo will also showcase a new dynamic with Jeon Yeo-been, who plays Sister Michaela, a character initially conflicted and resistant toward Junia but ultimately drawn to her cause. Their compelling chemistry as two nuns risking everything to save the boy raises audience expectations.

Director Kwon Hyuk-jae stated “Song Hye-kyo’s words, expressions and gazes as Sister Junia shine as a powerful mise-en-scène throughout the film”, highlighting anticipation for Song Hye-kyo’s performance. Song Hye-kyo herself shared “I lived as Sister Junia for three months, focusing solely on this character”, hinting at her immersive, high-density performance and delicate expressions that promise to deliver intense engagement.
