“Culinary Class Wars” Ahn Yu-seong Shares Bitter Thoughts After Elimination, Viewers Outraged “Japanese Food Master Eliminated Without Making Sushi?”

Chef Ahn Yu-seong shared his thoughts after being eliminated from Netflix's series "Culinary Class Wars"

On Oct 3rd, Ahn posted on his account, “During the filming of ‘Culinary Class Wars’, I went two full days without sleep. The hardest part was coming out alone at dawn, looking at my mom’s picture and trying to keep my mental state from breaking down.” Along with the message, he uploaded photos of himself during filming and a childhood picture with his mother.

In episodes 8~10, released on Oct 1st, Ahn Yu-seong was painfully eliminated after being voted out of Choi Hyun-seok’s team during a restaurant team mission. He then joined forces with “Comic Book” and “Self-Made” to continue competing, but despite their efforts under unfavorable conditions, their team recorded the lowest sales, leading to their elimination.

Viewers harshly criticized the episode, pointing out the unreasonable elimination system and the excessive penalties imposed on the team. Many also commented that the show’s concept of “focusing solely on taste without regard for rank” contradicted the events of this episode.

Additionally, some participants who had garnered viewer interest, such as Lee Young-suk and Master of School Meals, were primarily assigned prep work, leading to disappointment due to their lack of screen time.

Frustrated viewers responded with sharp criticism, “How can a Japanese food master be eliminated without even serving sushi just because of low sales? What kind of food competition is this?“, “Stop using people like props. You edited it to make it seem like Comic Book’s comment was part of a strategy, but the contestants’ breakdowns were too obvious to hide“, “It’s disappointing not to see the sushi master actually making sushi“…
