On October 4, actress Youn Yuh-jung and director Kim Cho-hee appeared together on Choi Hwa-jung’s YouTube channel to share various stories.
During the video, Youn Yuh-jung revealed an anecdote about a prophecy stating she would die at 75 years old. She also shared items from her bag, which included a pouch and a thick envelope of cash. Notably, a prophecy printed by a close doctor of hers caught attention.
Choi Hwa-jung commented on Youn Yuh-jung becoming the first Korean actress to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film “Minari” in 2021, saying, “No one ever expected that you would win an award at that age.”
Director Kim added, “They said you would die the year you received the Academy Award.” Youn responded, “So, my friend kept calling me saying, ‘It’s okay; you’re still alive.’ Later, I heard that 3 places said my health was very poor. But 1 place had an old man who said I would die.”
She continued, “When I asked, ‘Did that old man say I would die?’ my friend replied, ‘That old man in Cheongju doesn’t know anything. He doesn’t know what the Academy is. But he said something big would happen at 75, and he interpreted that big event as ‘dying’ because I would be old by then,’” which elicited laughter.
