“Jeong-nyeon” Kim Tae-ri, A Breathtaking Birth of a Star

The "growth posters" featuring Kim Tae-ri in tvN's new Saturday-Sunday drama "Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born" have been revealed

“Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” (directed by Jung Ji-in, written by Choi Hyo-bi, produced by Studio Dragon, Studio N, Management MMM and NPIO Entertainment) is set in the 1950s, just after the Korean War, a time of poverty but also of romance. The story revolves around Jeong-nyeon, a “born genius of sound”, as she competes and bonds with others on her journey to become the best gukgeuk (traditional Korean opera) actress. The drama has drawn attention with its fresh focus on “female gukgeuk”, and is directed by Jung Ji-in, who previously directed “The Red Sleeve”. The cast includes Kim Tae-ri as Yoon Jeong-nyeon, Shin Ye-eun as Heo Yeong-seo, Ra Mi-ran as Kang So-bok, Jung Eun-chae as Moon Ok-kyung, Kim Yoon-hye as Seo Hye-rang, with special appearances by Moon So-ri as Seo Yong-rye and Lee Deok-hwa as Gong Sun-bu, raising expectations for the drama.

The recently released “growth posters” encapsulate the exhilarating journey of Jeong-nyeon’s growth, piquing curiosity and anticipation. Kim Tae-ri’s character, Yoon Jeong-nyeon, is a vocal prodigy who moves to Seoul from Mokpo alone, aspiring to become a gukgeuk actress. She is not only well-rounded in vocal performance but also possesses strong survival skills, fierce determination and a charming, easygoing personality that allows her to easily make friends.

The posters showcase Jeong-nyeon’s journey through three distinct images. The first image captures Jeong-nyeon practicing gukgeuk alone in her hometown of Mokpo, fully immersed in her practice against the backdrop of a lush village. Although her efforts are somewhat unpolished, her serious demeanor reflects the budding potential of a young talent.

In the second image, Jeong-nyeon is seen joining the “Maeran Theater Company”, the most prestigious gukgeuk troupe of the time. Instead of being intimidated by the many eyes watching her as she performs, Jeong-nyeon confidently embraces the attention.

The final image reveals Jeong-nyeon as a fully-fledged gukgeuk actress, radiating charisma. Her stunning costume and makeup are striking, but what truly captivates is the aura of a star that Jeong-nyeon exudes. She stands under the spotlight, shining brightly like the most brilliant star in the sky.

The sequence of these three images together resembles the powerful flapping of a bird’s wings as it soars toward a new world. Even with just these three images, the emotional impact of Yoon Jeong-nyeon’s journey as a vocal prodigy from Mokpo is palpable, heightening curiosity about how her growth will be portrayed in the drama.

tvN’s new Saturday-Sunday drama “Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” is set to premiere on Saturday, October 12th at 9:20 PM.
