On September 3, the Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office Criminal Division 1 (led by Chief Prosecutor Yoo Jung-ho) announced that YouTuber A (a 35-year-old woman) has been additionally charged with defamation and insult under the Information and Communications Network Act.
A is accused of posting videos on her YouTube channel, often known as “Sojang”, between July 2022 and January of last year, in which she insulted the appearances of two female idol group members.
In August 2022, she also allegedly posted a false video about the fan management practices of a male idol group, damaging the group’s reputation and interfering with the agency’s operations.
However, the female idol members involved in this additional case are not affiliated with IVE.
Previously, A was first charged in May for defamation after posting slanderous videos targeting Jang Wonyoung and six other celebrities or public figures between October 2021 and June of last year.
An analysis of the YouTube channel’s account revealed that A earned approximately 250 million KRW (around $188,000) over two years starting in June 2021.
A was found to have produced and spread false videos claiming, for instance, that Jang Wonyoung sabotaged a fellow trainee’s debut out of jealousy and that other celebrities were involved in prostitution or had undergone plastic surgery.
