The issue of “parental risk” among some celebrities has become a topic of controversy. On the 2nd, KBS Joy’s “Ask Anything” featured the biological mother of a famous current singer who shared her concerns about her ex-husband obstructing her son’s career. Kim Soo-chan confirmed on his fan café that the story’s subject is his mother.
Kim Soo-chan expressed, “For the past few days, I have been unable to sleep well and have felt uneasy. As a singer whose mission is to deliver happy energy to the public and given the recent increase in fans visiting our fan café due to frequent local performances, I am personally very saddened that I cannot write about positive matters.”
He continued, “However, ignoring the issue will not make it disappear. Since there are ongoing victims due to my father, I am sharing this information with you first. The last guest on today’s ‘Ask Anything’ is my mother and the story is about me.”
Kim Soo-chan added, “During my military service, I once shared my family history through a letter to become a happier Kim Soo-chan who stands before everyone after clearing all negativity. My mother, hoping that nothing would go wrong, went to the filming site alone without telling anyone. She promised that her identity would be kept anonymous until the end.”
He concluded, “As a son, I feel deeply troubled. I believe it is no longer something to ignore. I apologize for causing unnecessary concern. However, I am well aware of the fans who always support and stay by my side.”
On “Ask Anything,” a guest who divorced 14 years ago claimed that her ex-husband is blocking their son’s career. She revealed that her ex-husband spread false information to hinder her son’s career and had been violent since the children were young. She also stated that he had left her with their three children without alimony and had made false claims about her actions.
Additionally, Han So-hee has once again been embarrassed by her mother’s actions.
On the morning of the 3rd, Han So-hee’s agency, 9ATO Entertainment, issued a statement saying, “The matter reported on the 2nd regarding actress Han So-hee’s mother is an extremely personal issue involving her mother. Han So-hee learned about this through the article and is deeply distressed.”
The agency added, “We reiterate that this incident is entirely unrelated to the actress and is a unilateral act by her mother. We apologize for conveying uncomfortable news that is not related to her work.”
According to a TV Chosun report on the 2nd, the prosecution has arrested Han So-hee’s mother, Shin Mo, on charges of operating illegal gambling establishments. Shin Mo is accused of running 12 illegal gambling operations in Ulsan and Wonju since 2021 until last month, using a “front” to disguise her involvement. She had previously been fined for similar charges.
Shin Mo has also faced multiple lawsuits for fraud and similar allegations. In 2020, a netizen claimed that Han So-hee’s mother had absconded with gambling money, sparking a “debt scandal.”
In 2022, a similar incident occurred, prompting Han So-hee’s agency to explain, “When borrowing money, Shin Mo used an account in Han So-hee’s name. She had opened the account without Han So-hee’s knowledge when Han was a minor and used it to borrow money. There were several similar incidents, including forgery of documents. A civil trial was conducted, and the court clearly stated that these matters were unrelated to Han So-hee.”
The agency acknowledged that cutting off the parent-child relationship is challenging, but expressed regret for the impact on those affected and hopes for a firm response to prevent recurrence.
