Recently, the renowned Forbes magazine published an article titled: “Blackpink’s Lisa Has Now Charted As Many Hits In The U.K. As All Her Bandmates Combined
In the article, Forbes opens with high praise for Lisa: “Blackpink star Lisa is on quite the roll in the U.K. In just the past few weeks, the singer has scored a pair of new smashes with the only two tunes she’s released as part of the latest era of her solo career. As her latest cut debuts, she pulls further ahead of all the other members of the band that made her a household name in so many parts of the world.”
Analyzing Lisa’s achievements in the UK market, Forbes reports: “‘New Woman’ is a music collaboration between Lisa and Latin artist Rosalía. This highly anticipated partnership has propelled both women onto the official UK song chart at #55.
With the appearance of ‘New Woman’ on the UK Singles Chart, Lisa made history. The song marks her fourth appearance on the list as a solo artist, continuing to lead ahead of all other K-pop solo artists.
In fact, with four entries on the UK song chart, Lisa now has as many hits as the other three BLACKPINK members combined.”
Forbes also discussed the achievements of Jennie, Jisoo, and Rosé: “Among the women of the band, Jennie is the only other member to appear on the U.K. songs chart more than once. She debuted on the tally in October 2023 with her own “You & Me,” which spent one frame as a top 40 smash. The following month, she joined The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp on the tune “One of the Girls,” which eventually climbed to No. 21.”
“Both Jisoo and Rosé have earned just a single hit. Between them, Rosé reached the ranking first, back in 2021. That year, her track “On The Ground” opened and stalled at No. 43. Last year, Jisoo’s “Flower” cracked the top 40, rising as high as No. 38.”
Towards the end of the article, Forbes continued to praise Lisa’s solo music, noting that both of her latest songs have achieved high rankings on the UK charts: “‘New Woman’ is a major hit in the UK, not only appearing on one main chart but also selling significantly in the country. Lisa’s ‘New Woman’ debuted on four charts, reaching the top 10 on both the Official Singles Downloads and Official Singles Sales charts, while also debuting on the Official Streaming chart simultaneously.”
“Last month, Lisa debuted her solo track “Rockstar” at No. 49 on the closely-watched singles chart. She made her name known in the U.K. as a soloist in 2021, when both “Lalisa” and “Money” reached the ranking, with the latter spending two months climbing nearly into the top 40.”
Most recently, Lisa received four nominations at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards for her hit ‘ROCKSTAR.’ The nominations include Best K-pop Song, Best Choreography, Best Art Direction, and Best Editing. With these categories, Lisa has become the most nominated K-pop solo artist.
At the 2024 VMAs, Lisa will also become the first K-pop solo artist to perform at the event. Fans are currently voting fervently, hoping she will make history just as she did at the 2022 VMAs.
