Oh My Girl’s Seunghee Reveals the Truth After 17 Years “Appearing on ‘Korea Sings’ Wasn’t My Decision”

On August 22nd, Oh My Girl (Hyojung, Mimi, YooA, Seunghee, Yubin, Arin) sat down for an interview with TenAsia at the JW Marriott Dongdaemun in Jongno-gu, Seoul to discuss their 10th mini-album “Dreamy Resonance”.

Reflecting on her 10 years with Oh My Girl, Seunghee began by saying, “I was like a wildflower. I was thrown into the entertainment world.” She then shared how she ended up entering the industry at a young age. Previously, on MBC’s variety show “Radio Star”, Seunghee revealed that she had been supporting her family since her debut. She now shared more about the unique circumstances that led to her becoming a singer.

She confessed, “Honestly, becoming a singer wasn’t my dream. My parents loved seeing me sing, so they wanted me to become a singer. Without telling me, they submitted an application for me to participate in the preliminary round of ‘Korea Sings’. Suddenly, I was told I had to sing, and that’s how it all began and led to where I am today.”

Seunghee also shared that the growth of her fellow member Arin had touched her deeply. She said, “Arin debuted at 17, and during our dorm life, I would always pack her lunch before she went to school in her uniform. But as we became more successful, I saw her casually hand out drinks to company staff and even drive to Yongin by herself. I thought, ‘This friend has really grown up.’

Hyojung, another member, mentioned that her desire to become an idol was initially sparked by singer Baek Ji-young, which intrigued many. She recalled, “I used to love senior Baek Ji-young and wanted to be a ballad singer. So, I sang a lot of sad songs from elementary school, but then the K-pop boom happened. I started dancing along, and I realized I wasn’t bad compared to other students in my school. That’s when I changed direction.”

Meanwhile, Oh My Girl is set to make a comeback after a year and a month since releasing their 9th mini-album “Golden Hourglass” in July last year. The title track “Classified” is a pop dance song based on classical music. With a dreamy atmosphere, this song serves as a response to their previous track “My doll” and expresses their deep affection for their fans.

Oh My Girl’s 10th mini-album “Dreamy Resonance” will be released on August 26th at 6 PM through various music sites.
