K-netizens Mock BTS International Fans for Attempt to Boycott Korea

Following the incident where Suga was caught driving under the influence and subsequently investigated and apologized, many international BTS fans have expressed their anger and are calling for others to “stop supporting South Korea”. The situation has now become a hot topic on the Korean forum “theqoo”.

In particular, in a topic titled “Overseas Suga fans want to boycott Korea”, various screenshots of Tweets made by BTS fans are compiled.

These Tweets, which range from “can we collectively stop supporting South Korea anymore they don’t deserve it” and “I want that country’s downfall at any cost”, to “Let’s start boycotting their products except BTS? The fandom is bigger than their population”, carry the same sentiment that Suga fans will drop their support for Korea, Korean media (including K-dramas), and products from Korea.

Seeing these Tweets, K-netizens show a mocking attitude, and below are some of their comments:

  • Even so, HYBE pays taxes to South Korea with the money they spent on buying BTS goods and going to concerts…
  • Then shouldn’t BTS be the first to be boycotted?
  • If you boycott Korea but spend money on BTS, how is that a boycott?
  • What’s going on? This is seriously funny lol. Mind your own country.
  • They’re the ones who’ve been demeaning Korea from the beginning without spending money. They’re just going to do what they’ve been doing. But now that they have an excuse, it’s great that they’re doing it for free without worrying about what other people think.
  • If Korea fails, your BTS will fail too…
  • Even if they boycott it, it doesn’t have any negative effects on Korea at all
