When asked about her expectations for season 2, Kim Min-ha responded, “During season 1, I felt the pressure of everyone on set not knowing who I was, but season 2 was the complete opposite. All the staff recognized me. I also faced the challenges of the season system. I had to find a way to subtly portray a much older Sunja while maintaining the character I had established in season 1.”

In response to a question about the main topics of conversation on set, she said, “We talked about what hope each character held. Season 2 is set against an even more dramatic backdrop than season 1, like World War. It shows people who have lost their families and become devastated. We discussed what strength they could have found to keep living.”

When asked about her thoughts after experiencing life through her role, she replied, “I tried to put myself in Sunja’s shoes. Though I haven’t experienced war, even in my worst moments, there were always things to smile about and days to laugh. It made me realize how important the thread of hope is in life.”

When asked what her thread of hope is, she answered, “My family, my dog, my friends. The small things I can sense. The sudden scent of flowers, or a breeze on a scorching day—these small, sensory experiences are my greatest sources of hope.”

Reflecting on what she has learned after nearly seven years as an actress, she said, “Listening. Over the past few years, I’ve learned a lot about how to really listen to someone. I love that acting is a performing art where you listen, observe and make something your own, which you then express and release. In the process of expressing through acting, I’ve learned how to absorb well.

When asked about what she doesn’t want to lose as an actress, she candidly answered, “Myself. The moment I lose myself, everything I do becomes meaningless. That’s why self-management is my top priority. I meditate, exercise and read books to maintain that.”

Apple TV+’s “Pachinko” season 2 consists of eight episodes, with the first episode set to premiere on August 23rd. Kim Min-ha’s charming photoshoot and interview can be found in the September issue of Elle and on the Elle website.
