Marvel's Spider-Man 2-My Hero Academia

“My Hero Academia” is Inspired by One of Marvel’s Best Films

The manga “My Hero Academia” recently concluded after a decade-long journey, leaving fans with mixed emotions.

Following the release of the new film “My Hero Academia: You’re Next,” author Kohei Horikoshi spoke about the inspirations behind creating the franchise. It turns out that a superhero movie played a significant role in shaping his covered superhero story.

My Hero Academia

In particular, Kohei Horikoshi shared with Comicbook.com: “There’s a scene in ‘Spider-Man 2’ starring Tobey Maguire, where Spider-Man stops a runaway train. In that scene, ordinary passengers see Spider-Man’s real face. Later, a child hands Spider-Man his mask and says, ‘I won’t tell anyone.’

“I think that scene answers the question, ‘What is a hero?’ A hero is someone who helps ordinary people, and ordinary people also help them”, the author added.

Kohei’s comments analyze the theme of heroism in “Spider-Man 2”, particularly in the context where Peter Parker is pushed to his limits while facing Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus. Audiences can sense this parallel in Deku’s confrontations with All For One and Shigaraki. In fact, “My Hero Academia” even includes a subtle romance via the relationship between Deku and Ochako.

In addition, *Marvel’s Spider-Man 2* (a 2023 action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment) includes a detail that references *My Hero Academia*.

In season 3 of “My Hero Academia”, there is an intense battle between Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo. This iconic battle is referenced during the fight between Miles Morales and Peter Parker in “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2”, where Mile Morales almost mirrors Bakugo’s actions as he tries to help Peter Parker pull away from the symbiote’s control.

At that moment, Spider-Man had essentially become evil and lashed out at his closest friends. Thanks to Miles’ brave fight, Parker was able to remove the black suit.

Directed by Sam Raimi, “Spider-Man 2” was a groundbreaking moment for Marvel films, as the studio’s track record at the time was unstable, with the exception of “Blade” and “X-Men”.
