Lee Hye-ri (Hyeri) appears in the new movie “Victory”, which will premiere on August 14th, as Pil-seon. “Victory” is a movie about the stories of Millennium Girls, a club of first-time cheerleaders who are full of passion, cheering everyone with exciting dances and songs.
Hyeri takes on the role of aspiring dancer Pil-seon and presents an enthusiastic performance. She’s the leader of Millennium Girls and a hip-hop lover, however, she has no choice but to do cheerleading in order to get a dance practice room. In particular, Pil-seon also has a bright and lovely charm just like Hyeri.
After watching the trailer and the movie at the premiere event, many people said Hyeri in “Victory” reminded them of Deok-sun. Deok-sun and Pil-seon have similar names, both are the main characters and both projects have the retro vibe of the year 1988 and 1999, respectively. In this regard, Hyeri said, “I believe that I’ve come this far thanks to Deok-sun”, adding “The PD who came to the premiere said he enjoyed watching ‘Reply 1988’ the most among my projects. ‘‘Reply 1988’ is your masterpiece’, the PD said, and I think that expression is correct. I think I’ll be very upset if Pil-seon beats Deok-sun”.
In fact, “Victory” director Park Bum-soo already thought of Hyeri for the role of Pil-seon from the stage where he planned the concept of the movie. Hyeri did not disappoint director Park and perfectly portrayed Pil-seon, not Deok-sun. Unlike Deok-sun, Pil-seon is more determined and has a goal.
Showing her confidence, Hyeri said, “I trusted the script and acted faithfully according to it. I didn’t think my character would look like Deok-sun at all”.
Leaving a strong impression with her role as Park Yeon-jin in “The Glory”, Lim Ji-yeon also greeted viewers on the big screen through “Revolver”, which premiered on August 7th. “Revolver” tells the story of Su-yeong, a former police officer who was imprisoned after taking the fall for all the crimes, moving forward with only one goal in mind after being released from prison. Lim Ji-yeon plays the role of Jung Yoon-seon, a bar madam who becomes Su-yeong’s mysterious ally. Unlike Su-yeong, Jung Yoon-seon is vibrant and lively, which Lim Ji-yeon portrays naturally with her delicate acting skills.
Lim Ji-yeon confessed that she let go of her concerns to act for the first time in this film. The actress shared, “I had to gain great courage to do this project”, adding “I’m the type who calculates everything I do. I always think about what I would do on the set before actually going there“, adding “I also planned everything when acting as Yeon-jin in ‘The Glory’. I also started with worries as I wondered if I could do well when acting with senior actors. At some point, I just let go of all those thoughts. It required much effort to abandon a habit”.
After rising to stardom with the character Park Yeon-jin, the name also follows her like a tag. Jung Yoon-seon is also a strong character, just like Yeon-jin, so many thought Lim Ji-yeon would be upset about facing criticism such as ‘Yoon-seon is similar to Yeon-jin’. However, Lim Ji-yeon confidently said, “I’m not worried about people mentioning Yeon-jin. I’m very confident. That character is completely different. I didn’t act like Yeon-jin this time. I’m sure that viewers will realize that this character is a new one while watching the movie”.
It is not easy to overcome the success of their iconic characters, however, Lee Hye-ri and Lim Ji-yeon think it is natural for the public to remember them as Deok-sun and Yeon-jin.
