Lim Ji-yeon recently met viewers on the big screen with “Revolver”, which was released on August 7th. “Revolver” depicts a story about former police officer Ha Soo-young (Jeon Do-yeon) going straightforward for only one purpose after being released from prison. Attention is focused on Lim Ji-yeon as this is her first movie comeback in three years since “Spiritwalker” (2021).
During those three years, Lim Ji-yeon earned significant achievements, especially her collaboration with Song Hye-kyo in “The Glory” and Kim Tae-hee in “Lies Hidden in My Garden”. The actress perfectly digested strong villain roles in these two projects and gained recognition for her wide acting spectrum.
In a recent interview with Star News, Lim Ji-yeon explained the reason she decided to join “Revolver” and make a new transformation. She said, “I’m a fan of director Oh Seung-wook’s movie ‘The Shameless’. The participation of the director and Jeon Do-yeon was enough to be the reason I wanted to appear in this movie. I wanted to feel the atmosphere they bring about and learn more from them”.
Explaining the relationship between her character and Jeon Do-yeon’s, Lim Ji-yeon commented, “I can see many people enjoy watching and feeling the chemistry between two women”. Regarding her admiration for Jeon Do-yeon, she said, “When I was in school, Jeon Do-yeon already became ‘Cannes Queen’. During the days when I only acted in independent films, I watched her movies a lot and I really wanted to learn from her. I’m so honored to be with her on this project. I think her career is really cool”.
Song Hye-kyo, who worked with Lim Ji-yeon in “The Glory”, attended the VIP Premiere of “Revolver” and posted on Instagram. In this regard, Lim Ji-yeon said, “When I was walking around for the stage greeting, she gave me a bouquet of flowers as a gift with a handwritten letter. She also waited until I finished the stage greeting so that I could meet her”, adding “I read her letter as soon as I got home after the schedule. It was very touching”.
Explaining her role in “Revolver”, Lim Ji-yeon said, “I’m very greedy for acting and I really want to do well. This character has high self-esteem and I started to love myself more while playing this kind of character”.
She continued, “I felt a lot of insecurities. Thoughts like ‘I’m not an actor who knows how to enjoy what I’m doing so I need to prepare a lot’, ‘I’m not an actor who can fly high’, etc. about myself came to my mind very often. If I prepare 200%, I might only be able to do 20% on the set. With that mindset, I prepare even more”, adding “However, on the set of ‘Revolver’, I decided to let go of those intense preparations and just enjoy the fun of acting. I was surprised to see the result, too.”
Lim Ji-yeon made her face known to the public through her debut film “Obsessed” in 2014, in which she performed 19+ scenes. However, she couldn’t achieve remarkable results after “Obsessed” and struggled for several years. Looking back on the past, the actress shared, “It was not easy to do such a scene when I just debuted so it somehow made me lose my social skills. I made my debut in such an intense movie at a young age, so I didn’t know the meaning of fitting into the scene even though I majored in acting”.
She continued, “I didn’t what my charms were as an actor. I’m not as pretty as Song Hye-kyo. However, now I already realize that my face can express a lot. I can look nice, or evil, or anything whenever I want. I also have a variety of voice tones, which I believe is my strength as an actor”.
Expressing her passion for acting, Lim Ji-yeon, “Acting is very interesting and I want to keep doing it. Even when I’m resting, I still join an acting study group. I’m very greedy so I don’t think I want to rest now”.
Lim Ji-yeon also answered questions about her boyfriend Lee Do-hyun, who is currently serving in the military. The actress smiled and shared, “I hope he stays healthy”. She added, “We support each other a lot. We normally don’t interfere with our personal work, but I’m grateful for his existence and support”.
