NewJeans Selected as “Influential Young Artist” by Variety—The Only Female K-Pop Artist

Group NewJeans was selected as one of the most influential young artists in the global entertainment industry

On August 7th (local time), the American pop culture magazine Variety published its “2024 Young Hollywood Impact Report”. NewJeans was the only female K-pop artist to be included in this year’s list.

Variety highlighted NewJeans’ achievements on the U.S. Billboard charts and the world’s largest music streaming platform Spotify. The magazine also noted the group’s partnerships with global brands like Coca-Cola and Apple, praising NewJeans as “K-pop darlings”.

This year, NewJeans has been active with both a comeback in Korea and a debut in Japan. Their Korean double single “How Sweet” and Japanese debut single “Supernatural” not only dominated the top spots on major domestic music charts but also performed well on various global charts. Both albums sold over one million copies, making all five of NewJeans’ releases to date million-sellers. Additionally, the group’s popularity was evident at their fan meeting held at Tokyo Dome, Japan on June 26th~27th, where they attracted an audience of about 91,200.

Meanwhile, NewJeans has been nominated for the prestigious American music awards ceremony, the MTV Video Music Awards, for the second consecutive year. According to the list of nominees announced on August 6th, NewJeans was nominated in the “Best K-Pop” category for their song “Super Shy”, one of the triple title tracks from their second EP “Get Up”. Last year, NewJeans was nominated for “Group of the Year” at the MTV VMA.
