After the issue was reported in articles on August 7th, Suga released an apology, saying “After drinking alcohol for dinner last night, I got home by riding an electric scooter. I violated the Road Traffic Law due to my light thought that the distance was short and not realizing that using an electric scooter while under the influence of alcohol is prohibited”, adding “No one nor property was damaged. However, this is my responsibility and I have no excuse, so I sincerely apologize to everyone.”

Suga’s agency Big Hit Music also released an official statement explaining the issue and apologized, saying “We apologize for causing disappointment to many people due to our artist’s inappropriate action. He will be disciplined properly for his actions at his workplace as a social service worker for causing social controversy”.

According to the report by “Newsroom”, the vehicle Suga rode is called a foldable electric scooter with a maximum speed of 30km/h and is classified as a personal mobility device. If the riders are caught drunk driving, they will have to pay a fine and their licenses will be revoked. However, for vehicles with higher maximum speed and stronger engines, the riders can be fined up to 10 million won or imprisoned for up to two years.

Amid Suga’s drunk driving issue, the Military Manpower Administration said, “If a social service worker commits a crime outside the working hours, there is no secondary disciplinary action after civil punishment”.
