BTS’s Suga Apologized For Drunk Driving Incident, “I Thought Lightly That The Distance Was Short”

BTS member Suga released an apology about being investigated for riding an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol

On August 7th, Suga wrote on the fan community Weverse, saying “I feel so heavy and sorry to have come to you guys with such disappointing news”.

Suga continued, “After drinking alcohol for dinner last night, I got home by riding an electric scooter”, adding “I violated the Road Traffic Law due to my light thought that the distance was short and not realizing that using an electric scooter while under the influence of alcohol is prohibited”.

He explained, “I fell while trying to park the electric scooter at the front door of my house. A police officer nearby noticed me and requested a breathalyzer test. As a result, my license was revoked and I was ordered to pay a fine”. Suga apologized, saying “In the process, no one nor property was damaged. However, this is my responsibility without any excuse, so I sincerely apologize to everyone”.

Suga added, “I would like to apologize to everyone who felt hurt by my carelessness and wrongdoing. I will be more cautious about my behavior to make sure that such incidents will not happen in the future.”

Suga’s agency Big Hit Music also released an official statement, saying “Suga rode an electric scooter while wearing a helmet on his way home after drinking alcohol on the evening of August 6th. He fell while parking the scooter after riding it for about 500 meters. As a result of the breathalyzer test at that time, Suga was fined and his license was revoked”.

According to the agency, there was no damage to people or property, and Suga returned home under police supervision.

The agency said, “We apologize for causing disappointment to many people due to our artist’s inappropriate action”, adding “He will be disciplined properly for his action at his workplace as a social service worker for causing social controversy”.

Earlier on the same day, the Seoul Yongsan Police Station revealed that they have been investigating BTS’s Suga on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving). According to the police, Suga was found falling by himself while riding an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol in Yongsan-gu the previous day. A police officer approached to help Suga after he fell and noticed the smell of alcohol so they took him to a nearby district police station.

Meanwhile, Suga has been doing military service as a social service worker since September last year. His discharge date is scheduled for June 2025.
