“Harry Potter” Writer J.K.Rowling Under Fire For Her Remarks About Olympics Transgender Boxers

J. K.Rowling (real name Joanne Rowling), known as the writer of the “Harry Potter” series, caused controversy again

On July 30th (Korean time), Rowling made a post on her personal SNS account to publicly oppose the participation of transgender boxers Imane Khelif from Algeria (66kg) and Lin Yu-ting from Taiwan (57kg) in the Olympics.

The female writer expressed great concerns with harsh remarks, such as “What will it take to end this insanity? A female boxer left with life-altering injuries? A female boxer killed?”.

Earlier, the IOC announced on March 29th that Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting could participate in the Paris Olympics 2024. In response to this announcement, Rowling already expressed her discomfort.

However, the two boxers were disqualified by the International Boxing Association (IBA) before the finals at the World Championships held in India last year for having male chromosomes. In the case of Lin Yu-ting, she won her first World Championships gold medal in 2018 and another gold medal at the World Championships in New Delhi in 2022. Despite winning a bronze medal last year, she was disqualified for failing the gender test.

In this regard, Taiwanese netizens criticized Rowling, saying “Lin Yu-ting is originally a woman, not a transgender”, “Rowling is too narrow-minded, this situation is so annoying”, etc. A doctor pointed out, “There’s nothing to question as long as they pass the Olympic Committee’s test”. On the other hand, Rowling’s fans tried to defend the writer, saying “Competitions like this are so unfair”, “Female athletes should boycott the Olympics”, etc.
