Steamy Scene in “Good Partner” Sparks Outrage: Are Writers Disregarding Women?

This Popular Drama Faces Backlash Over a Single Scene

“Good Partner” is currently receiving a lot of positive feedback from the audience with ratings surpassing 10% after 5 episodes. Despite the praise, the film still faces some mixed reactions from viewers. Recently, aside from criticizing the acting of supporting actor Pyo Ji Hoon, viewers are also displeased with the relationship between the couple Han Yu Ri (Nam Ji Hyun) and Jeon Eun Ho (Pyo Ji Hoon).

In the drama, Eun Ho is a colleague who joined the company three months before Yu Ri. After witnessing many colleagues leave due to the harshness of their superior, Eun Ho makes a great effort to persuade Yu Ri to stay at the company and accompany him. In episode four, after their colleague relationship becomes closer, Han Yu Ri confides in Jeon Eun Ho that she follows a single lifestyle and does not want to get married due to the trauma of witnessing her father’s infidelity. They share their family stories and views on marriage while drinking together.

After their drinking session, the couple even goes to a second round of drinking, which leads them to a hotel. The next morning, when Yu Ri wakes up, she realizes that she had a one-night stand with her colleague. Shocked by her mistake while drunk, Yu Ri hurriedly dresses, leaves the hotel, and tries to continue working with Eun Ho as a colleague.

The seemingly cute colleague relationship of this couple unfortunately receives numerous criticisms from viewers. The main reason is that “Good Partner” was initially introduced as a film about women’s relationships, where they face crises from the aftermath of divorce.

Moreover, as mentioned earlier, Yu Ri is traumatized by her parents’ broken marriage and does not want to get married. The rapid progression of this colleague relationship makes viewers feel that the scriptwriter is disregarding the character’s emotions and life views. Additionally, the loveline between this couple is deemed unnecessary when what Yu Ri needs to do is to heal herself and support Cha Eun Kyung (Jang Nara), who is also suffering from betrayal.

Viewer comments:

  • I dropped this show after that episode. It really drove me crazy.
  • It’s really bland and outdated.
  • A male colleague takes a drunk female colleague to a hotel? She should report him for sexual assault!
  • The romance between these two is the most redundant element in the entire show.
  • There’s no chemistry between Nam Ji Hyun and Pyo Ji Hoon.
  • This almost feels like mocking and belittling women who say they oppose marriage.
  • Is the writer disregarding women and Yu Ri’s feelings?
