According to media site Deadline on July 26 (KST), director Hong Won-ki (Connecting, Urban Myths, and Goedam) will be responsible for directing “Unnie”, a K-pop thriller inspired by BLACKPINK and the K-pop industry as a whole.
“Unnie”,which is set against the competitive K-pop world, is based on the 2023 Black List script from Lynn Q. Yu and billed as a thriller in the vein of “Black Swan”.
So far, casting for the film is underway and production is slated to begin in Seoul and Los Angeles in January.
Meanwhile, scriptwriter Lynn Q. Yu previously revealed that the idea for “Unnie” began during COVID, when she “fell down the K-pop rabbit hole” through the BLACKPINK documentary “Light Up the Sky”.
