“Super Rookie” ILLIT Made Chinese Fans Sing Along Loudly To “Magnetic” At TMEA 2024
HYBE’s girl group ILLIT certified their name as a “super rookie” with a spectacular performance on their first Chinese music festival
ILLIT performed all the songs from their first mini-album “SUPER REAL ME”, including the title track “Magnetic”, at the 2024 TMEA Indoor Music Festival (5th TMEA 2024) held the Galaxy Arena in Macau on July 19th.
5th TMEA 2024 is a music festival and award ceremony organized by Tencent Music Entertainment Group, which owns China’s largest platform companies such as QQ Music, Kougo Music, KuGou Music, Kuwo Music, etc. This year’s event aired live worldwide on the global live platform Weverse.
At the TMEA event, ILLIT introduced ‘ILLIT WORLD’ with their unique teenage sensibility to K-pop fans. The group proved their name as a “global rookie” by presenting diverse performances full of lovely charms.
Appearing on the stage wearing white costumes, ILLIT members began with “My World”, a song that expresses the world they see and feel. The song’s mysterious pitch, addictive hooks, and choreography perfectly portrayed ILLIT’s identity and heated up the atmosphere from the beginning.
Later, as soon as the whistle introduction of “Lucky Girl Syndrome” played, the audience suddenly shouted very loudly. Through this stage, ILLIT received compliments for their refreshing energy and confidence. The members then thanked the audience’s enthusiastic support, saying “We heard the cheering sound on the stage, and we felt like we’re lucky girls today”. During the performance of “Midnight Fiction”, the group used the extended stage to get closer to fans, make eye contact with them and greet them one by one.
The highlight of ILLIT’s performance was definitely “Magnetic”. Local fans sang along loudly to not only the chorus but also other point lyrics such as “oh my god”, “This time I want”, etc., creating a very exciting scene at the venue. Fans shouted as the members performed the viral “Magnetic dance” and made the audience’s cheer reach its peak, confirming their reputation as a powerhouse in K-pop’s 5th generation and a ‘short-form craze’ idol.
Meanwhile, ILLIT achieved many records on global music charts with “Magnetic”. The song became the first K-pop debut song to enter US Billboard’s Main Song Chart ‘HOT 100’ and the UK’s Official Single ‘TOP 100’. The album “SUPER REAL ME” also made it to No.93 on Billboard’s Main Album Chart ‘Billboard 200’ on May 11th.
