“Is Being a Celebrity’s Daughter a Job?” – Update on “Take Care of My Dad” Cast Members

We’ve put together an update on the cast members of SBS’s nostalgic variety show “Take Care of My Dad”, where celebrity fathers and their beautiful daughters appeared together and garnered much attention.

Aired in 2015, SBS’s “Take Care of My Dad” reached a peak viewership rating of 7.4%, becoming a stage to introduce the faces of the then-non-celebrity daughters to the public.

The show featured Lee Kyung-kyu and Lee Ye-rim, Cho Jae-hyun and Cho Hye-jung, Lee Deok-hwa and Lee Ji-hyun, Kang Seok-woo and Kang Da-eun, and Jo Min-ki and Jo Yoon-kyung. Except for Jo Yoon-kyung, who majored in Chemical Engineering at the University of Illinois, all the daughters are pursuing acting careers.

The issue is that, despite it being nine years since they became known to the public in 2015, none of these actresses have a notable work to their name. Lee Ye-rim appeared in “Gangnam Beauty”, “Miss Complex”, “Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung” and “At a Distance, Spring Is Green”, but she couldn’t shake off the label of being Lee Kyung-kyu’s daughter. After marrying soccer player Kim Young-chan in 2021, her presence on TV diminished, further fading her presence. Despite her pretty looks and slim figure making headlines with every social media post, she lacks the right opportunities to establish herself as “Actress Lee Ye-rim”.

Jo Hye-jung, who had to go on a hiatus due to her father Jo Jae-hyun’s Me Too controversy, has built her filmography with various projects such as “Cinderella with Four Knights”, “ Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo”, “Go Back” and “Our Blues”. Despite her excellent acting, the actress has not yet made a leap forward. In addition, it is also hard to get away from the shadow of her father Jo Jae-hyun.

Making her acting debut in the 2020 drama “Kingmaker: The Change of Destiny”, Kang Seok-woo’s daughter Kang Da-eun is now active as a model. Even after leaving a strong impression with her unique facial features and elegant image, Kang Da-eun has yet to go beyond expectations in her career.

There are many programs that highlight children of celebrities, such as “The Return of Superman” or “Dad, Where Are You Going?”. In other words, many have been known to the public ever since they were young thanks to the fame of their celebrity parents. However, later on, it is the kids who have to prepare themselves and grab the opportunities. Aside from inheriting the beautiful visuals and acting skills of their parents, celebrity kids should prove their talents to the public.
