RM’s Second Solo Album Receives Acclaim as Billboard’s ‘Best K-Pop Album’

RM's second solo album is receiving continuous praise.

BTS’s RM’s second solo album ‘Right Place, Wrong Person,’ released this May, has been selected by Billboard as one of the ‘Best K-Pop Albums of the First Half of 2024,’ chosen by their staff. Billboard stated, “RM explores his identity and emotions once again through the most ambitious album of 2024.”

Billboard further commented on ‘Right Place, Wrong Person,’ calling it “an experimental musical work that sincerely shares his thoughts.” They also focused on the tracks, mentioning, “Tracks like ‘Come back to me’ and ‘Domodachi (feat. Little Simz)’ feel like spaces where RM introspects and expresses his mind rather than aiming for mass appeal,” adding, “It sounds like he freely expresses all aspects of himself through this album.”

In this album, he raises profound questions with music that transcends genres.”

The American music specialist media Consequence of Sound described RM’s second solo album as an ‘experimental album’ and selected the track ‘Domodachi (feat. Little Simz)’ as one of the ‘Best Songs of the First Half of 2024.’

RM’s new release received praise from prominent overseas media immediately after its release. Outlets like NME described it as a “beautiful and interesting artistic work,” Grammy.com called it “RM’s remarkable solo journey,” and Hypebeast referred to it as “the fascinating musical journey of BTS’s leader,” all highlighting his musicality. Indeed, through this album, RM ventured into the alternative genre and expanded his musical world by collaborating with artists of diverse styles.

‘Right Place, Wrong Person’ deals with moments when one feels like an ‘out-of-place stranger,’ addressing this universal emotion everyone has felt at some point in their lives. Upon its release, RM’s new album debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200 main album chart, making him the first K-pop solo artist to have two consecutive works reach the top 5 on this chart. In the UK’s Official Album Chart, it peaked at number 37, setting a new record for his solo albums.
