CARATs Criticize BBC For Publishing Misleading Article About SEVENTEEN

Media outlet BBC faced a backlash for accusing SEVENTEEN of using AI technology in their recent music video

Recently, BBC released an article titled “Will K-pop’s AI experiment pay off?”. In particular, they mentioned SEVENTEEN and member Woozi when discussing the use of AI technology in K-pop production.

Referring to the music video of SEVENTEEN’s song “MAESTRO”, BBC stated, “It features an AI-generated scene, and the record might well include AI-generated lyrics too”. The media outlet added that the group’s producer Woozi also said to reporters that he was “experimenting” with AI when writing songs.

Right after the article was published, CARATs (SEVENTEEN’s fandom) poured criticism, claiming that BBC was spreading misinformation.

BBC’s article was seemingly written based on the introduction, which said “A portion of the footage in this video was created using AI”, from SEVENTEEN’s “MAESTRO” MV teaser. However, CARATs pointed out that AI was not used in the music video and the introduction was just for the concept of humans challenging AI technology to show the negative effect of AI.

Regarding the mention of AI use in writing songs, Woozi’s original remarks were about him trying to apply AI while practicing producing to see the good sides and bad sides of AI technology. In fact, Woozi never said he used AI in making “MAESTRO”. CARATs believe that BBC was twisting Woozi’s words and disrespecting his efforts as a producer.

Calling out BBC’s misleading article, CARATs are writing posts to clarify the information.
