BLACKPINK’s Jennie Admitted to Indoor Vaping, Apologized to Staff

Amid criticisms related to vaping indoor and blowing the smoke at her staff, BLACKPINK's Jennie has officially apologized

On July 9, Jennie’s agency, ODDATERLIER (hereinafter referred to as OA), issued a statement saying, “We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie’s actions.”

Previously on July 2, Jennie uploaded a vlog on her YouTube channel that showed her smoking an e-cigarette indoors, which sparked controversy and was subsequently deleted.

The video featured Jennie preparing for her runway debut at the Jacquemus fashion show. In the video, Jennie was getting her hair and makeup done by her staff while holding a black stick, presumably a vape diffuser, and exhaling white smoke.

Despite being in close proximity to the staff who were doing her makeup, Jennie exhaled vape directly near their faces. Fans criticized Jennie for her inconsiderate behavior, with some even labeling it as an abuse of her celebrity status.

One netizen claimed to have filed a complaint with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and requested an investigation by the South Korean embassy in Italy, asserting that the filming location was Capri Island.

The netizen, identified as A, stated, “The scene in question appears to be filmed on Capri Island, Italy. I have requested an investigation through the embassy, feeling deeply troubled by Jennie’s actions.”

Amid growing controversy, Jennie issued an apology through her agency. The agency stated, “We apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie’s actions. Jennie herself reflects on smoking indoors and causing inconvenience to the staff. She has personally contacted and apologized to the staff present at the scene.”

The statement continued, “We also apologize to fans who felt disappointed. Jennie will strive to show a more mature and positive image in the future.”
