KYK Invitation 2024 volleyball game took place at Jamsil Sports Complex Indoor Stadium in Songpa-gu, Seoul on June 8th. The Korea Volleyball Association reportedly held this event to commemorate Kim Yeon-kyung’s retirement from the national volleyball team.
During her retirement ceremony after the match, Kim Yeon-kyung said, “I tried not to cry but ended up getting emotional a little bit. I’ve played volleyball wearing the Korean national flag for a long time. Playing volleyball was what I dreamed of ever since I was a kid. Many thoughts are coming to my mind. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart”.
In particular, several stars, such as Yoo Jae-suk, Song Eun-yi, PD Na Young-seok, writer Kim Dae-joo, actor Lee Kwang-soo, etc., were spotted at the stadium to support Kim Yeon-kyung.
Previously last month, Kim Yeon-kyung guested on SBS’s program “Whenever Possible” and Yoo Jae-suk promised that he would come to watch her last match. At that time, Kim Yeon-kyung said, “You once said you would watch me playing but you didn’t come and attended IU’s concert instead”. In response, Yoo Jae-suk explained the timing did not allow him to go to Incheon for Kim Yeon-kyung’s match so the female volleyball player invited him to her retirement match.
Yoo Jae-suk remembered his promise to Kim Yeon-kyung and actually appeared at the stadium for her retirement ceremony with Lee Kwang-soo. Yoo Jae-suk, Lee Kwang-soo and Kim Yeon-kyung worked together in Netflix’s 2022 entertainment program “Korea No.1”.
In addition, actresses Jung Ryeo-won and Park So-dam, known as Kim Yeon-kyung’s close friends, also visited the stadium.
