In addition, Kim Moo-yeol confessed that he had done a lot of part-time jobs, saying “I was a track and field athlete at city and provincial competitions. My main focus was the 200 meter and high jump,” Kim said. “My brother, who grew his hair long in middle school, told me that he could cut if I went to Anyang Art High School, so I told my mother that I wanted to go to Anyang Art High School, and she sent me to an acting academy. My father however wanted me to study hard and become something else. I went to an acting academy without my father’s knowing,” he said. “My father graduated from the political science department of Seoul National University and served as an aide to lawmakers, and he was so strict that I couldn’t tell him about learning acting.”

In addition, Kim Moo-yeol recalled his childhood, saying, “When I entered high school, my mother was fooled by a sale scam, so my allowance was very low.” He continued, “One time I had to go to Daehak-ro, but I didn’t have the money to buy train tickets to go back and forth from Gwangmyeong, so my mother had to borrow money. Later, my father collapsed when I was around the age of 20, and I thought a lot about becoming strong as the eldest son of the family, as my father was lying in a vegetative state with his head shaved after cancer was found and had to be treated repeatedly.”

“I was burdened by paying tuition fees while studying at the acting department at Sungkyunkwan University, which required a lot of money. I took a leave of absence from school and worked part-time due to lack of money,” Kim Moo-yeol said. “I worked so much that I couldn’t remember many part time jobs I had. I could earn a lot of money by performing on the capoeira stage, having my body paint. I performed at local festivals, local university events, and worked as a part-timer in delivery and a flyer.”

Kim Moo-yeol said, “My father passed away when I was about 30. I almost lost my mind at the funeral. This was the time when I went through the most overwhelming situation,” adding, “I succeeded with a movie that reached 10 million audiences this time and had my son last year. Sometimes I feel like my father can now go somewhere to brag about me, I wish he could watch this. I end up saying it unconsciously.”
