Won Bin, where are you? Absent even in the 20th-anniversary event of “Taegukgi”

Actor Won Bin will not be attending the 20th-anniversary event for the film "Taegukgi". Beyond commercials, Won Bin has remained an elusive figure in the entertainment world

According to sources in the film industry on May 25th, a press conference will be held ahead of the re-release of “Taegukgi” on May 30th.

This event, celebrating the film’s 20th anniversary, will feature director Kang Je-gyu and lead actor Jang Dong-gun. However, the other lead actor, Won Bin, will not be in attendance.

“Taegukgi”, which was released in 2004, tells the story of two brothers who are forcibly drafted into the South Korean army at the outbreak of the Korean War. It became South Korea’s second film to surpass ten million viewers.

For Won Bin, “Taegukgi” remains his only film to achieve such massive box office success. The movie, remastered in 4K resolution, is set to be re-released on Memorial Day, June 6th. Yet, it appears that Won Bin will not be making a public appearance this time either.

Won Bin, renowned as one of South Korea’s most handsome actors, debuted in 1997 with the drama “Propose”. He solidified his status as a star with subsequent successes in films like “Mother” and “The Man from Nowhere”. However, he has not engaged in any acting projects since “The Man from Nowhere” in 2010.

Currently, apart from commercial advertisements, Won Bin has remained out of the public eye. His wife, actress Lee Na-young, mentioned in an interview with a fashion magazine, “My husband is actively watching various works and feels envious of good movies. I think we just need to wait a little longer.”
