There is a possibility of ‘The Idol,’ Jennie’s drama debut, being available to stream in Korea as well.
According to SPOTV News, on July 4th, it was revealed that Wavve is currently in discussions with HBO regarding a supply contract for ‘The Idol.’
Wavve is already in a content supply contract with HBO. Currently, they are in the process of renegotiating the contract, with the expiration of the July supply contract approaching.
If the contract is successful, there is a high possibility that ‘The Idol,’ which has not yet been released in Korea, can be watched with Korean subtitles.
Previously, as Wavve had also released HBO’s popular series ‘Euphoria,’ there is great interest among Korean netizens regarding the release status of ‘The Idol,’ which has been a hot topic even before its premiere and throughout its airing.
Meanwhile, ‘The Idol’ depicts the reality of the music industry surrounding a pop idol in Los Angeles, USA. It is directed by Sam Levinson, the director of ‘Euphoria,’ and features The Weeknd as a co-producer and cast member.
This series received a lot of attention as BLACKPINK Jennie’s acting debut. However, controversies arose throughout its airing, including discussions about Jennie’s acting skills and the appropriateness of certain scenes. Critics even commented, “This is not a drama but pornography” after the first episode.
