From Taemin to ONF & DAY6… Idols who are proudly returning after fulfilling military service in 2023
K-pop fans are looking forward to the military discharge of many male idols, such as SHINee Taemin, Block B P.O, etc.
Enlistment has been an inseparable issue for male idols. The military hiatus of 1.5 – 2 years may be short for normal people but the idol market would have changed a lot during that time. In order to soothe fans’ disappointment, male idols nowadays are making various efforts, such as preparing various content planned before their enlistment. Here are idols who will complete their mandatory military service and proudly return in the arms of fans this year.
The first idol who has already been discharged from the army at the beginning of this year is Han Seung Woo from VICTON. Han Seung Woo entered the Military Training Center in July 2021 and was deployed to serve in the Military Band. After one year and 6 months, he was officially discharged on January 27th. The second star who has just returned is EXO Baekhyun. Baekhyun, who enlisted on his birthday May 6th, 2021, was discharged from the army on February 5th. EXO members will have time to gather as a whole team before Kai and Sehun’s enlistment.
SHINee Taemin is also scheduled to be discharged on April 4th. Taemin enlisted in May 2021 and served in the army band, but was transferred to a supplementary service in January of last year due to poor health. All members of SHINee, including Taemin, will have completed their military service in 2023.
In addition, MONSTA X Shownu, who enlisted in July 2021 and served alternative military service as a social worker, will also be discharged in April.
In December 2021, boy group ONF drew attention by enlisting together, which is unusual for an idol group. All of the group, except for foreign member U who did not need to enlist, will be discharged in June this year, and will be able to return to activities.
DAY6 also ends their military service this year. Young K, who joined the military in October 2021 and became the first idol to enlist as a KATUSA Soldier, will be discharged on April 11th. Meanwhile, Dowoon, who is serving in the military band, will be discharged on July 16th, and Wonpil, who is serving in the Korean navy, will be discharged in November.
In addition, B1A4 Sandeul will return to his normal life in August. Block B P.O, SF9 Inseong and Youngbin, as well Golden Child Lee Daeyeol will be discharged in September, and ASTRO MJ in November.
