Lee Se-young, “Unfamiliar legal terms are harder than historical drama terms… I had to do many retakes”
Actress Lee Se-young confessed the difficulties she had when learning legal terms for her new drama.
Lee Seung-gi and Lee Se-young, the main character actors of new drama “The Law Cafe”, appeared as guests on the September 5th broadcast of KBS CoolFM’s “Lee Gi-kwang’s Music Plaza”.
KBS 2TV’s new Monday-Tuesday series “The Law Cafe”, which will air its first episode on the same day, is a Law-mance drama that tells the story of the house owner Kim Jeong-ho (Lee Seung-gi), who is a former prosecutor, and the house tenant Kim Yu-ri (Lee Se-young), who is a beautiful lawyer with a four-dimensional personality. It is based on a popular web novel of the same name.
When asked if she found it difficult saying the lines with words related to the law, Lee Se-young said, “I had to keep changing the first and last words of my sentences and filmed many retakes. I was not familiar with legal terms, there were some difficulties.”
Lee Seung-gi also shared, “While studying the terms for the drama preparation, I found that some words in Korean law were basically interpreted from German law so it is sometimes difficult to explain them in Korean. It is hard to clearly understand legal terms in Korean sometimes. The terms themselves are already complicated, but it is a little more difficult because I had to say them in a way that is different from our normal speaking structure.”
He smiled and continued, “It’s quite interesting doing a drama about the law. If we understand the law better, we can protect our rights. I tend to memorize information fast but forget about it right away, and I heard that trading with a young man who doesn’t know much about the law is not valid. So, it’s not particularly useful.”
Lee Se-young mentioned a line that suddenly came to her mind and said, “I don’t think about it on normal days so I kept making NG scenes because of that one line.”
When Lee Gi-kwang asked, “What’s more difficult, historical drama terms or legal terms?”, Lee Se-young replied, “I think legal terms and medical terms, which we don’t often use in our daily life, are the most difficult”.
Lee Seung-gi added, “Historical drama terms are much easier. I think they’re quite interesting. Legal terms are really difficult. I feel pressure since I can’t make mistakes when it comes to the law.”
