6 Korean actresses who are considered “monster rookies” with mega hits right after debut

Right from their first acting projects, these Korean actresses managed to make a deep impression with their outstanding performances. 

Kim Go Eun

In 2012, Kim Go Eun went from an unknown name to the center of attention after her debut role in hit movie “A Muse”, which swept through various awards ceremonies. In particular, she earned 10 prestigious acting awards with this performance alone, stunning audiences and the public alike with her dreamy visuals and top-notch acting skills.  

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Kim Go Eun is considered a “monster rookie” in the Korean film industry. Now, she is living up to such title by achieving both critical and commercial successes on both the Korean big and small screen.

Similar to Kim Go Eun, Kim Tae Ri also kick-started her acting career with a mega-hit movie. In particular, the actress made her feature film debut in 2016 with “The Handmaiden”, having surpassed over 1,500 competitors in order to earn the role. She would then go on to win 11 awards with this debut appearance, receiving both popularity and critical acclaim. 

Compared to other actresses, Kim Tae Ri does not boast a massive filmography, but most of her works achieved resounding successes. She also received attention on the small screen via hugely popular dramas “Mr. Sunshine” and “Twenty Five Twenty One”.

Kim Da Mi is another actress with the surname Kim, who made a grand entrance on the big screen. In 2018, she starred as the female lead in the action-mystery film “The Witch: Part 1”, and secured 13 awards for this portrayal. With her extremely immersive acting, the actress easily seared a deep impression into the audience’s mind. 

Now, the “monster rookie” Kim Da Mi has been conquering both the Korean big and small screen with notable projects including “Our Beloved Summer”, “Itaewon Class”, and the newly-released movie “Soulmate”.

Jung Ho Yeon started her career as a model who walked various runways around the world. Owning a charismatic visual, Ho Yeon tried her hand in acting in 2021 with the Netflix series “Squid Game”, which enjoyed a global “syndrome-like” popularity. Almost overnight, Jung Ho Yeon was recognized globally, opening up new opportunities in the filming industry for the model-turned-actress, including several offers to star in Hollywood projects.

While Jeon Jong Seo was relatively new to the small screen, she managed to impress the viewers with her acting performance in Netflix’s “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area,” promising more success in this field in the future.
