Which second male lead character from K-dramas airing in the first quarter of 2022 is your favorite?
K-drama second male leads always succeed in gaining the audience’s interest, sometimes even more so than the male leads. However, out of the outstanding second male leads in ongoing K-dramas, there are not only characters that we are obsessed with, but also characters we cannot stand. Let’s find out who they are.
Kim Jin Seok – Thirty Nine
Kim Jin Seok is Thirty Nine’s most controversial character because viewers can be mad at him yet still understand and feel bad for him. Because of his hesitant and indecisive attitude, Kim Jin Seok hurts two women, one who loves him and one whom he loves. Although things are complicated as Kim Jin Seok had to get married on a lie and has been raising a son who is not his biological child, his actions are still unfair to his wife and turn Jung Chan Young (Jeon Mi Do) into the other woman in an extramarital affair.
The character’s problem aside, Lee Moo Saeng’s portrayal of Kim Jin Seok is excellent. His acting, especially in the scene where he ugly cries when he finds out that Jung Chan Young has a terminal illness, is heartbreaking. In such a quality cast of Thirty Nine, Lee Moo Saeng absolutely shines.
Cha Sung Hoon – Business Proposal
Secretary Cha of CEO Kang Tae Mu (Ahn Hyo Seop) is definitely the K-drama second male lead that generates the most buzz lately because of his handsome looks and charming personality.
Kim Min Kyu suits Cha Sung Hoon perfectly. He looks like he walks right out of the original webtoon. Kim Min Gyu has been receiving no less love from the audience than the male lead. His character’s fun and sizzling love line with Seol In Ah is also one of the best parts of Business Proposal. With the success of Business Proposal, Kim Min Gyu is expected to land a leading role in the future.
Moon Ji Woong – Twenty Five Twenty One
Just like Go Yu Rim (Bona) said: “He doesn’t have the standard good look, but he’s my style”, any girl would fall for someone like Moon Ji Woong. His academic performance is terrible, but Moon Ji Woong has many other formidable talents and is very quick-witted.
Choi Hyun Wook has more opportunities to act in Twenty Five Twenty One than the Racket Boys or Taxi Driver, so his skills are also a lot more impressive. Whether it’s Nam Joo Hyuk, Kim Tae Ri, Bona or Lee Joo Myung that shares the screen with him, Choi Hyun Wook‘s interaction with them was all great.
Han Ki Joon – Forecasting Love and Weather
Look wise, in this drama, although he looks a bit thin, Yoon Park is still quite cool in his elegant office attire. His character Han Ki Joon looks quite mature compared to Lee Shi Woo of Song Kang. But even though he’s beautiful, Han Ki Joon‘s character is still disliked by many viewers. Just his dating with another person, while preparing to marry a lover of 10 years is enough to “dispel” all fans.
Also, after breaking up, he got married to that person and asked for a split of the house rent with his ex, even though he only contributed 20%. Han Ki Joon is both handsome and good but sorry that the female lead Jin Ha Kyung is also beautiful and better than that, so there’s no reason for her to be humbled by this guy at all. In general, Han Ki Joon‘s personality is very strange, he has a new wife but still likes to pick a quarrel and control the relationships of his ex. Yoon Park portrays this role very well and along with Park Min Young, he carries the acting of the two main characters. No matter how much you hate Han Ki Joon, you should acknowledge Yoon Park‘s good acting in this drama.
